American Academy of Pediatrics: Improving the Behavioral and Emotional Care of Ohio's Children: Developing a Strategic Plan
The Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) resolved in 2004 to focus its activities for the subsequent 15 to 18 months on improvement in the behavioral and emotional care of Ohio’s children. It established a Committee on the Social and Emotional Aspects of Child and Family Health, which was responsible for developing an action-oriented strategic plan. Metis Associates was enlisted to help design that plan, which would guide joint efforts of the Ohio chapter and partner organizations, agencies, advocates, and parents to ensure that Ohio’s children have timely access to high-quality, evidence-based behavioral health services that are sufficiently reimbursed and that promote healthy emotional and social development. Over a period of several months, Metis helped to design and facilitate a conference held in February 2005 at which the leadership of the Ohio AAP met with advocates, legislators, and stakeholders to develop the strategic plan. The results of the strategic plan were distributed to all pediatricians across the state of Ohio.
